So I've seen videos, read blogs and also read here that you can H&C with foundations that differ from your normal shade by 1-2 shades... I just have a few questions about this, especially in reguards to pale skin tones...
1. what do you use to highlight if you already buy the lightest shades or foundation/concealer, etc?
2. Is it easier to use powder foundations or liquid foundations for H&C if you're a beginner?
3. I don't have anymore questions but I felt weird stopping at #2.
I really don't try to H&C often but when I do I find highlighting to be the hardest part mostly because I have no clue what to highlight with and people just recommend getting something with shimmer to highlight... I'm not a vampire in Twilight (thank f-ing god) and I don't care much to "shimmer". Everything else as far as technique/application I figure is a matter of practice, practice, practice!
thanks lads and ladies!

Oh!! just thought of Q #3!! -- what shades would you reccomend using for paler skon tones that won't stand out too much? my other issues are finding something to contour with that doesn't end up looking like a strange bruise...

Then you don't need to highlight at all really, just contour. & powders would be easier just because they give a more natural effect.. But creams & liquids aren't hard either you'd just have to get used to it.. Good luck (: hope I helped.

You want a soft brown ofcourse with maybe a cool undertone.. & you're going to need a light hand.. Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit ($40) has a beautiful soft brown, very shadow-like if that even makes sense lol it's awesome check it out!!

Contouring would probably be most beneficial. You can use any neutral toned foundation. Or something like nyx taupe blush. Also you can mix a white foundation (I know MAC sells one so a lot of others companies should) to make any foundation lighter. There are cheek highlighters with no shimmer but more of a sheen/glow. Like Becca opal skin perfector doesn't have shimmer (a lot of $$ but I think it's worth it) or a cream blush with sheen like l'oreal visible lift blushes doesn't have shimmer and can act as a highlight on the cheek as well. To set the highlight to make it even lighter you can use a white powder (like Ben nye cameo powder) with a damp cosmetic sponge to really brighten the highlight.
I'm sorry if it sounds so scatterbrain. I'm just like rambling off what I know lol

Thank you Rebekah. I've been told highlighting isn't as necessary for super pale skin but my skin is a little dull I feel even with foundation and all that jazz. maybe it's time to get new face makeup??

I'm a beginner to and I find highlighting is easier as a liquid. Set your face then go in with a powder contour

If you want some type of highlight you could try and take a white cream like the one in MUFE Flash Palette or just any face paint white cream & with your fingers tap some on the areas you want highlighted, blend well then apply a powder over it, pat not swipe with your brush, you want to keep that brightness in place then dust off all the excess powder and hopefully this will give you the look you want

I'm very fair skinned. I found a face powder from the black radience cosmetics in rich mahogany. it is the perfect contour and only 4 bucks! for highlight I use hard candy baked bronzer in tiki.
