So my friend and I went to Ulta. Is it just me or are they never willing to help? And then we went to Mac and the makeup artist outlined my lips with a pencil and did a horrible job! Has anybody else ever experienced situations like this!

I was just like is this normally how the mac counter goes or is it just a bad experience.

Everytime I go into my local (just local...) Ulta or Sephora, I usually get ignored. I'm sure its probably because they think I'm just some kid who isn't going to buy anything lol but then I come out of the store with a ton of stuff. But like I said its just at the store in my town not at any of the other ones I've been too. Honestly though, most makeup counter are just salesman and not really makeup artist, so as far as technique, I feel like most don't know what they are talking about...

I go to my sephora and ulta a lot so the employees are pretty cool.. But when I was in chandler, Arizona the ladies at Sephora weren't genuine.. Not a lot of woman of color in that area as well.

When I interviewed for a job at Ulta not that long ago every girl there looked down her nose at me and the manager who did the interview was a total bitch. I turned them down and told the woman on the phone I wasnt interested in being apart of a team that was more interested in competing with one another on looks than they were good customer service and decent manners lol

Depends. when I was younger they used to ignore me but now I can usually spot the bitchy makeup artists and the nice ones. the girls at Ulta (local one in the bay area) can range from holy shit you're a bitch and wow what a lovely lady. sephora is nice. Mac I feel has the nicest women. personal experience with them but I don't love the way they apply makeup so I don't go to them often.

I prefer Sephora over Ulta because the service is nicer and Ulta stores can seem messy, which makes me twitch lol. Although every counter has their good employees and ther bad employees. I haven't had a horrible counter experience, but most counters don't take me very seriously on account of my age. They seem almost surprised when I buy something!

Every experience at MAC for me has been awful to the point where I won't buy the products. My sephora (inside jcp, other one sucks) is great. The people are starting to recognize me and treat me like I know what makeup even is unlike other places. Ulta people just never seem to be of any help but I have one horrible experience if you are up for a rant.
I'm always in search for a fair foundation and heard clinque was a great brand that had light foundations. So I was testing them out and found them all to be way to dark so I started to leavd when the lady.comes over and without really even talking to me and without my permission starts applying the makeup to my face. She used her hands (BIG NO) and shr didn't even wash them, I could smell metal (which I'm allergic.to and broke out horribly the next day). But not only that when she found all the colors where to dark she asked me if I wanted to buy it and when I said no its to dark she said, well its not going to get better than this because you are to light. Like really. She needs to be fired. Lets just say I have not been back to that ulta since

When I was in North Carolina, the employees at Ulta were wonderful!! I went in there so much they started to recognize me! They were so friendly and always smiling and more than happy to talk but the majority of people in NC are like that. Since I've been back to Ohio I haven't been to an Ulta yet. I assume they won't be as wonderful being I'm no longer in the south. Funny how people in the North and Mid-west seem more stuck up and rude than those in the South.

Where were you located?

I haven't been to Asheville. Last year I was located in Pinehurst on THE stupid famous Pinehurst golf course and that's where all the million/billionaires live, the locals said Oprah and Michael Jordan had houses there and apparently Obama will be there this year, anyway even being in a town with nothing but wealth, I was surprised how nice everyone was. People in Holden Beach use to be nice but rich yankees took over that place. People in Wilmington were nice too. I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

I'm shocked that @Veronica M. mentioned the Sephora in Chandler. haha, I'm there right now on vacation & the Sephora sucks. They seem too busy to help or answer questions or even do their job at all. However, it's a store-to-store thing. Some makeup places have amazing, skilled, knowledgeable staff, some have people there for paychecks.

I'm in Canada, and My closest sephora is super nice, almost all the employees know me and treat me well, but when I was just getting into makeup they treated me like I knew nothing (I research everything like crazy before going into the store) and like I wouldn't buy anything. But I was like 13, so I understand that most of the young teens that go in are just looking and can't afford it.
But the sephora in West Edmonton mall (about 20 minutes from me) is horrible. It's always so busy, they have too little of staff, and they don't come up to help you unless you literally chase them down, and they usually have a lineup of people waiting for help.
Mac I find is varied by store so much. The local Mac has nice employees who don't go badly applied overboard cake face everyday. They know what they're doing, and they do it well. But again, in WEM, it's so busy, a lot of them look like they've applied their makeup 6 times in the past hour, and it's badly done. But I think it's mostly because WEM goes through so many employees it's hard to find/keep good ones.
It definitely varies store to store, and hours too. Some employees are always better than others and you can never get 100% good, hard working, talented makeup artists to work at a mall everyday.

I've had bad and good from the same places. Usually I'm happy with Mac, though I've dealt with really snobby and rude people there. Sometimes when I go to sephora they don't help me. Other times they're super sweet and go above and beyond

Awe alyx, I'm coming to the city this weekend and was looking for some makeup shops to go to, I'll definently avoid wem locations haha.

And I think nearly every store in that mall it's crap. I used to work at la senza in kingsway, and if another store was short staffed one of our employees would fill in, I got sent to one of the la senzas in that mall and hated it! It's just soo busy and disorganized. And I think that's the problem with a lot of the service in that mall. They need more store room employees instead of floor employees. I hated going to the back and shuffling through bins upon bins to find crap that in my store would have taken 30 seconds.

Yeah Raylene Definitely avoid WEM if you want good service lol. Both my cousins work there, and they both hate it. They're 17 and 19, and have more stress at work than their parents. They definitely need to hire more employees in general, they're always understaffed at 90% of the stores. If you're looking for makeup shops, definitely go to southgate. The sephora and Mac workers are 95% of the time greatt. They both have a few employees that aren't friendly, but they are usually really friendly and know what they're doing. :)

I had a weirdest Sephora experience when I went to NY for the first time. Where I'm from, there isn't a Sephora so whenever I go abroad, I go there and everyone was incredibly helpful and so nice. Then I went to NY Times Square. I went there into Sephora and everyone was just sooo...rude! I was ignored, even got some side 'looks'from people. (Mind you, I was alone since my dad refused to go inside) Maybe it's because I wasn't wearing makeup that day, looked tired from the bus trip or just looked different from their regular customer. I admit it was a busy hour but there were employees who were just lounging there, talking to each other whilst I tried to ask for help. I thought 'Well maybe, it's because I'm a little younger.' But nope! A group of younger teenagers come in and they were immediately greeted and helped with. I thought it was just incredibly snobby of them so I left.

I had better customer service at the next Sephora there, about a few block walk. A wonderful lady helped find a foundation for me and directed me to moisturizing masks. Honestly, I was a paying-customer...perhaps a little help would be nice.

I'm so sorry if this rant is horrible, but I was just deeply surprised. I mean, even the local makeup stores greet their customers, I got a side-look...
