Hair Styling help!!

So I have shoulder length hair & just recently bought a texturizing spray. I've never used a texturizing spray before but because it's already reaching 100 degrees where I live I find it too hot to use heat on my hair. How do you use texturizing spray? And how would I use it on my short hair without looking like a hot mess? Oh and I have layers.
