I'm inclined to agree with Hollie. Though it does depend on your hair, my hair personally keeps purple for a very, very long time. It's also easy to keep up a dark purple, especially if your roots are dark, because it will be harder to tell where the color changes, and when dark purple fades it usually fades closer to magenta, which in itself isn't unattractive and doesn't require immediate correction (like when blues fade to green or reds fade to strawberry red/blonde).

If you can at all, I highly suggest you try and get your hands on Pravana Chromasilk vivids. I dyed my hair purple in January, and when I changed it in May it was still as vibrant as when I first colored it.
