Hair color help please.

So for the summer I was thinking about doing a pastel color for my hair. My only concern is when my roots will show...my hair is a really dark blonde. For those of you who have colored your hair a bright color, how do you maintain your roots so that it doesn't look silly? Also, any color recommendations?

I think you'd have to recolour the roots, but it's just my opinion :)

Also use a color shampoo so that it doesn't fade fast :)
