Really there is no set rule about how much is too much. It is more like how much do you use or will you use before it goes bad. But really I have palettes that are years old that I don't use cause I want to keep the case. I am a collector of make up not a hoarder.

Yes its too much, stop here & start using up all these, don't buy anymore until you finish using these up. Otherwise, you waste your money, i'm pretty sure whatever new color comes out, guaranteed you already have at least 5, 6 or 7 eyeshadows that look just like it.
Tip: You can use the light colors as highlighters on your cheek bones & some of the pink colors as blushes, and some matte brown eyeshadow as a bronzer. Make it versatile, helps you use it up faster! :-)

I have a ton of eye shadows too, and they make up a big chunk of my collection. I'd say do a makeup no buy and try to use what you've got, AFTER making your holiday purchases. That way you'll get what you wanted for the holidays but in exchange you're gonna need to pass on spending after the holidays. I've been on a no buy for maybe a month or two and I'm hopefully splurging for xmas. I agree Mary, I love using the makeup in ways that its not advertised- cream shadows as highlighters, cream blushes as lipsticks, bronzer as eyeshadow, and the list is endless! Maybe get one or two things every so often as a treat, in the future.

My collection looks like that too and I still want a couple more pallets!! I would start by tossing what you don't like. I know it's hard to do, but I had to do that because it was getting out of control lol. So I tossed some stuff that I had bought but didn't like the quality of and never use. And start using them up!! I found this is a great way for me to start experimenting!!

I wouldn't recommend tossing it, only do that if its old/dry & smells bad. Do you still have the receipts? if so, return the ones you don't want anymore. Otherwise, you can sell what you don't want anymore on eBay or Poshmark :-)

Well i have bought eyeshadow that was chalky and couldn't use. So I tossed them because I had kept them in my collection because they were "pretty". So if you have pallets you don't have receipts for and never use, toss them. They will only overwhelm you. Or give them to a friend or family member.

Oh buddy!!! I thought I had a lot. My thought is this....if you're able to pay your rent, feed and clothe yourself then your collecting isn't damaging to yourself and others. We have a family friend who collects cars as a hobby. We don't judge him.....he can afford to do what he likes with his money and so can you. :)

mine is even worse haha but like Shelley said as long as its not interfering with your life. I mean if you are buying makeup but not paying your bills its a problem but for me its a hobby I consider it a collection plus I work as a MUA and blog so I am always testing out and trying new stuff. if there are items I don't use that much I may sanatize & offer to a family member or something like that. I've stopped buying as much as I used to but I already know I'll buy the new Naked basics palette from Urban Decay when that comes out and I got the new Tarte collection because it was a great deal. at the end of the day do what makes you happy as long as you have the money & the space for it.
