Perm question.. Please

If you put a perm in your hair (I know you have to wait 24 hrs before you can wet it), and use a straightener on it (later on) would it pull the perm out? Or will it go back curly after you wash your hair.

I'm not really sure because I have never had a perm before. Although I would think it would fry your hair even worse. I wouldnt suggest it but I guess after 24 hours it might now be that bad.

What type of perm? I don't perm my hair but I know about it.

If you're putting in a perm that will straighten your hair then no it will not go back to curly if you were to flat iron it. Once you perm your hair it would be reasonable to wait a day to flat iron your hair because you don't want any breakage after you just put strong chemicals in your hair such as a perm.

If you were to wash your hair after you have the perm in your hair you hair will not go back to curly it will stay straight. Once you see your new growth getting curled then it's time for a touch up. I know some people usually do touch ups every 2 to 3 months.

If you mean a flat iron, then no, it will not pull the perm out or cause more damage. unless you damage your hair with heat.

Phylicia first of all I never heard of a perm that straightens one's hair. 2nd why would someone want to flat iron their hair if it's straight? I knew Kelly would know since she's a hair dresser

Michele, there are a few different perms. us white girls get perms to make our hair curly. girls with really curly, coarse hair get perms to make their hair straight...otherwise known as a relaxer. They are both called perms because they are permanently (untill it grows out) changing the pattern of your hair.

1st of all Michele there IS a perm that makes someone hair straight and 2nd of all there are a lot of people that flat iron their hair even after they have the perm including hairdressers that I've seen for myself!!

Good morning Michele There are different methods and one is to relax or straighten the hair. I actually tried that once. Sadly it did not work for my crazy hair. Lol. If you are using a perm that will make your hair curly it's ok to straighten (or flat iron) your hair. Once you wash it, it will go back to being curly.

Ty Regina. See I knew about curly perms and spiral perms and I knew women of color used "relaxers" to get their hair straight, but I had no idea a relaxer was technically a perm since I never had to use it. All I was simply asking was if you got a perm (the only kind I knew of), if you could take a flat iron to it without destroying the actual perm. Only reason I was asking was bc I can't properly curl my hair like most of these pretty ladies can with a curling iron so I was thinking about getting a perm of some kind. But I also straighten my hair with a flat iron.
Regina is right, I'm extremely laid back and try very hard not to be rude or hurt others feelings on here. I've had people be rude to me because of looks I've done for fun or bc of my eyebrows and stash. But yet I don't get full out upset. Yeah I did get agitated when I constantly heard stuff about my eyebrows and stash. But I'm sure anyone who constantly hears only stiff that they know is their downfall to be pointed out, would get a bit upset. So in no way did I give attitude toward you. =)

Btw Regina I'm now debating if I want the cs brush set =/ once my net is back up I'll look again. I just don't see myself using all of them =/ but where else you going to find a 22 brush set for almost 20$ arg lol.

It's ok sweetie. You didn't do anything wrong. There is no harm in asking. That is what this site is for. And not everyone's wording will be the same. Sometimes I see a lot of verbiage on here that I am not familiar with at all. It must be the lack of YouTube video viewing on my part. :-). You should be able to straighten your hair with a flat iron after perming. Just maybe give it a little time after getting the perm so that your hair does not become damaged from too many extremes in a short period of time. And if you get your hair permed do lots of research. Definitely speak with someone that has experience in applying them. I do not recommend a home job even if it's cheaper. Know how you want it done so that you know how it will turn out. Think of the way/direction your hair grows now and how it lays down when you brush it/style it. When you perm it, it may not behave in the same way if that makes sense. Curly hair can be fun but I am tired of mine to be honest. I actually had straight (with a slight wave) hair when I was young. When I was 9 I made the HUGE error of allowing my friend to talk me in to getting a perm with her. Her mom did it for me and did not even call my parents to make sure it was ok. Girl I was in soooo much trouble. Lol. Not to mention the fact that my mom almost got in a fight with the lady that did it.

I didn't mean to make it sound like you didn't know what you were talking about. I do apologize. It's ok =) it makes me happy that the way I handle those "issues" inspire others. I got rude with one person who told me to go get my facial hair taken care of before as for makeup challenges lol. I told her to send me the money and I'd go fix my problem lol. I won't tweeze or wax myself due to messing my brows up so bad before I shaved them off lol. I recently shaved my stash too lol.. I'm going to come follow you =)

And on your brushes I know it's tough to make a decision. You want to justify your purchase and of course you don't want to buy more than you need or will use. If you feel that you will eventually learn to use the different brushes then go ahead and purchase them. What better reason to learn more if you already have the tools right? And if you don't think you will use them then look specifically for the types of brushes you know you want for sure.

If they are complaining about something that involves money then they need to send you the money to get it fixed other than that they don't need to make rude comments about what you need to do. and that's good that you handle those situations in a good way even after their rude comments. you're better than me lmao because I'd tell them off hut that's just me lol.

I remember I had did my eyebrows once myself and ended up with only one eyebrow lmao. Thank goodness my hair grows fast so within a few weeks it grew back but OMG it was so embarrassing.
