Long socks with tights?

It's going to be very cold where I live tomorrow. I'm wearing a black skirt, wine red sweater and boots. Can I wear sheer tights with knee high black socks and boots or would that clash? Also, I know that tall boots will look good, but would shorter black combat boots look good too?
