Should I do a perm?

My hair is pretty long now, and it's super straight. I was thinking about doing a perm, just on the tips, juts to get more volume.. But I am afraid, since I've never done anything like this to my hair before.. What are your opinions and experiences with perms?

The first two times I did my perm I loved it. My hair was so much easier to style. And my hair seemed to grow faster since I didn't use heat for like almost 2 years. However this last time I did it my hair was super damaged!! It was horrible. It felt like straw :( but I chopped it off and it's a lot better. This last time I went to a different salon for my perm so I don't know if that made a difference. But I don't think I'll do it again... And I actually got a perm on my full hair.

I hate perms! All it does is fry your hair.

Malu, your hair looks very thick and heavy and one length. a perm may get weighed down and go limp pretty quick. if you wanted a perm I would cut more layers in your hair.

Also is your hair colored now? colored hair is a little bit more prone to damage from a perm. especially if its bleached or lightened.

Yes, my hair is pretty thick and is crying for some nice layers :P Also, it is lightened.. That's why I'm kinda afraid if getting the perm hahaha.

I may buy a Miracurl instead AHAHAHA. But really, I'm the lazyest person for hair upkeep and treatments in general. I'm very lucky I have a pretty strong, thick hair, but looks like I'm looking for trouble :P.
