My hair is long but not super long. I have a hot tools curling wand but every time I curl my hair, the curls become tight.

Try bigger sections, and even buying a thicker curling wand will always help. I definitely agree with combing it out AFTER it cools.

I do what chanel said. And at the end I put some argan oil and then brush. The oil will relax the curls a little.
