This is what got my black hair super red. I think no matter what, the red will fade out if you wash it a lot.

Red is the hardest color to keep. Period. It's going to fade. They are the 2nd largest color molecule (blue is the first) and while that may seem like that may make it last longer. Nope! The largest the molecule, the faster it fades.

With that being said. Not all dyes all created equal. Some dyes do last longer. For red hair, I've heard great things about ion (Sally beauty supply) and Pravana (I'm not sure what store.) I've also watched tons of videos on the product Samantha posted. It really does a good job of lifting darker hair. I noticed it can be a little orange, so follow up with a red semi- permanent color to achieve that brightest. You can also add a red intensifier to the mix.

Ways to prevent fading:
-Don't wash your hair too often. Once or twice a week is ideal. (Dry shampoo is a good product to protect your investment)
-use a bit of semi permanent in your conditioner
-use a red hair or color treated shampoo and conditioner

Loreal hi lights in red plus one box of magenta. And I 10000% agree with Symone.

Agree with the loreal hilights, one red and one magenta with a 30 developer. It will gradually get brighter and brighter everytime you dye it. warning that all bright red colors do fade quickly, I had to redye my hair every 2 months. I've tried 10+ bright red dyes and loreal hicolor hilights was always my fave, here was my hair in direct sunlight after 5 months of dying xx

Just a tip if you use the loreal hi lights, when you retouch the color use a semi permanent dye or use the hi lights with a 10 developer so it doesn't damage your hair. Using a 30 or 40 every few weeks or months will damage it quite a bit because the dye is meant for dark hair, after your hair is dyed with it it is no longer dark and doesn't need the extra strength. I had such split ends after being a redhead using the product once a month with a 30 developer and ended up cutting a lot off.

I used loreal hi lights in magenta with a 30 developer and it came out pretty good this was before I died it black again so my roots were growing out but it lasted me a pretty long time.
