Correct foundation color?!

So I'm not quite sure what it is. But whenever I have foundation on I feel like my face looks ashy. I've been color matched at MAC two separate times. The first time I was told NC44. The second I was told NC42 So I have both now. -_- I use the MAC mineralized powder in Medium. At bare minerals I was told I'm golden medium so I have that as well which I use my mineral veil with. I focus more on eyeshadow. So I'm not very great at the whole face thing. I'm beyond confused at this point. Is it the types of foundation I'm using? The powders? & also, I've seen a few girls on here say they are NC45 or 44. And their foundation looks great however they are a completely different skin tone than me. Like way darker. Any suggestions?

It's so hard to get the true foundation color in stores because the lighting is so different! I have this problem myself...and what I want to do is go into my sephora store and ask for samples to try so that I can see if it matches me in the natural sunlight...I suggest you do the same :)

Go for what you think and try it. You may have one of those tricky colors to match. If you feel like you're getting home and it looks muddy or too dark try the lighter one. Everyone always tells me I'm darker and I think it's cuz I have freckles and a little redness. Then I go darker and it looks terrible. Like orange face. My arms and neck will be all light with a heavy orange line on my jaw. I have NEVER had anyone accurately choose my colors. Go for your gut girl and don't be afraid to try what you think even if the sales person says no. You are the one buying it and wearing it!! Good luck.

Sephora has a machine, the Pantone color IQ, that will tell you a almost perfect color match.
