I heard it's bad and drys out your hair but some people say it makes their hair soft lol so I'm confused too. I guess it depends on your hair type.

Mane n' tail shampoo/conditioner is not PH balanced for human hair or scalp, over time it begins to dry out your hair and make it brittle (scientifically, and speaking from personal experience with this one.)
The reason people claim Mane n' tail makes your hair grow is because of the heavy amount of wax in it.
The wax present in Mane N' tail simply weighs down your hair and this wax can actually cause flakes.
The wax in Mane n' tail is the reason for dullness, and dryness that it can cause. The wax builds up on your hair and overtime causes that side effect. In other words, Mane n Tail is as effective as lard.
I do find it funny when people argue with me, it's either..
'Well I used it once and it didn't do that.' Keyword is overtime - one use isn't enough for it to continue to build up. I used it for 6 months and was wondering the whole time what was making my hair so dry.
'Maybe you didn't use the conditioner.' I only use conditioner. I HAVEN'T shampooed in over 2-3 years.
'Well I've used it all my life!' Then I bet you, if you switch out to another brand your hair will be a thousand times better. How can you possibly know if it ruined your hair when all you did was keep using it lol. Thats like me saying I don't like XYZ when I never even tried it, lol.

I've used bottle of the stuff...I didn't have any complaints. on top of using the mane n tail, I deep conditioned with protein treatments and moisturizing treatments. so maybe that's why it didn't damage my hair or make it dry...I loved it...or at least the combo I had going on...
my routine has changed (I got lazy lol) and now I use Moroccan shamp/condit combo

I never just use just shampoo and conditioner. try oil treatments and deep conditioning. my hair type is 3c/4a btw.

Haven't done any research on it but I tried it and hated it, made my hair so much drier, its dry to begin with but ugh it was horrible.

Mane n tail is for VERY oily hair... It is NOT for permanent use. It draws out all the oil from your hair. It only makes since that if your hair isn't oily it would dry out your hair pretty bad, you know what I mean? My cousin was told to use it for a weak it drew out the oil and she doesn't need it anymore:)

I use it sometimes for a really good clean scalp. But after you use it use a organic conditioner to hydrate your hair again. After you're done in the shower use a leave in conditioner. (:

I did the same thing Kammy did. I've been using Mane&Tail for about 6/7 months and have no complaints, but I do find that if I don't deep condition my hair once or twice a week then my hair does feel a bit on the drier side. Also, I only use Mane&Tail when I'm at my mom's house, so every week or so I do use a different shampoo and conditioner when I stay at my dad's for the weekend. Not sure if that's helped anything, but I thought it was worth putting. (:
