I plan in dying my hair today, and I have no idea what brand to buy!! Both of my best friends suggest Ferria, because they use it for their hair, but are there any other good brands? Are there any other good natural brands I can use as alternatives to box dyes?

I really liked the Olia hair dye since its an oil dye. I put a bag over my head and it really spread. I don't recommend henna as you have to wait for it to wash out or grow out.

How light or dark are you going? If you're only going two shades up or down, use Shea Moisture dye. It's ammonia free plus it comes with their no sulfate shampoo, shea conditioner and oil. I dyed my hair jet black for the 1st time about 3 weeks ago and I love the results. ( my natural hair color is a dark brown/black)

@Kitty: that applies to mix henna. If you use 100% body art quality henna you'll be fine. I henna my hair and dyed it for the first time and I've had no problem.

@Nala negative. Organic Henna does not fully dye your hair. If you have want to dye your hair red for example using Henna, and you have lighter shades of red. It goes with it. So instead of having fully red hair, you will have red and highlights that are mixed with brown. And now lets say you disliked the outcome of the henna for whatever reason, and tomorrow you go and dye your hair straight from a box it will literally destroy your hair. There are countless reports of how henna has damaged women's hair. You literally have to wait for it to wash out in time. Which is not too bad as most dye's wash out within a month, but it is horrid if you don't know the negatives of it and think 'Well f it! I'm just gonna buy a regular box dye and put it over henna!'.

@Kitty: again usually most people use a henna that has other products mixed in it to get a desired shade. If the henna has an actual hair color on the box it's not pure henna and shouldn't be used. Henna only tints the hair vs dying it. But I can only speak to my experience, I've henna'ed my hair and dyed it with no problems. With artificial henna, it'll have chemicals and if I recall metallic salts that are used to get that desired shade of red which can damage the hair when coloring with a normal hair dye.

Go to a professional any box color at drugstores or Walmart or Target are not good for your hair!! I'm going to cosmetology school and I've learned from experience!
