Is it better to melt or de-tube and smash it into the container. I don't care how it looks in the container. Is melting going to change the application? When I see tutorials on YouTube the girls melt them and they look more like balms instead of lippies! Any advice is appreciated.

I would melt them, try one lipstick (you least favourite) and see how the consistency is.
