Try it before, and see if you like it, red lipstick is one colour that doesnt suit all, good luck haha

Try on a few different reds and see which ones you like the most and which ones you get the most compliments on. I say this because I am not the best at matching makeup to my hair and skin tone like most people find it proper to do, but I just try the colors on and wear them around to see which I like best. Perhaps start with a more muted red and work your way up to more outrageous or daring red colors. That way you can get comfortable with the idea of red a little at a time. I think as long as you have the attitude to rock it and don't let anyone know you're scared of wearing red, you'll be fine! Just own it! =)
