You don't necessarily have to go to school to become a makeup artist. I know quite a few who are self-taught and making a solid living at it. As a few girls mentioned here...practice,practice makes all the difference.

The Robert Jones academy's Gold membership is $249.00 for a year! Defiantly worth it , fraction of the cost of a normal course. You get full access to his kick butt tutorials , downloadable lesson by lesson course materials for an exclusive manual, access to members only forum, newsletter, ability to participate in contests and free giveaways, bonus behind the scenes videos , opportunity to be the first to buy products, downloadable course videos, and 25% off his have to have it in the shop section per month! This is what you get with the good membership which I will be asking for, for my birthday! Good luck! He also has a great YouTube channel, recommended to me by Miss Jackie H!

Wow. I hadn't been able to hop on to beautylish for a few hours and came back to a wealth of advice!! I love this forum so much. I've always had a strength in makeup and natural ability to understand it. I know a lot about makeup, but not as much as someone who's done it all. I just really love it and I'm not even sure I want to do it for money per say...I just really enjoy it!! thanks again everyone for all the info. definitely looking into those online courses. can't hurt :) I'm definitely open to learning anything and everything I can!!

Hannah S., I feel the same way you do. If money flows in with it then I'm a blessed woman, but I enjoy it and it's become a new passion for me, which is ironic cause I was a town boy growing up lol. I would love to have the opportunity to help women feel beautiful and confident about themselves. That's a reward all in itself:)

If you're good you don't need to be certified! a lot of the girls who work at mac are self taught. I currently go to beauty school but started freelancing way before I even thought about going to school for it. Make an instagram of all your makeup looks and try to get all your looks out there for people to see, than everyone will be like "do my makeup please!?!?!" haha.

This is awesome advice ladies. I agree with many of you I myself went to cosmetology school & even though I didn't finish everything I learned was way before school & honestly you don't learn much about makeup in cosmetology. I have a few clients that I have gotten on my own bc they have seen my work with not only makeup but hair. My strength was more the hair even though I was always passionate on anything that had to so with beauty weather it was hair, makeup or fashion just had this passion om making people look & feel beautiful. I practice but wish I had more time to practice more often but busy single mom is hard. I agree that you don't need to be certified to become a MUA but my personal opinion The more you learn the better you will be. I know there are things we will learn in school that we didn't learn by watching you tube videos or just practice. I myself am looking into going to beauty school in my area the cost will be about $4,900 for a 6 wk program but they will teach you film makeup it's a basic, intermediate & advances program all in one. I spoke to several MUA's & they said it's well worth it & regardless of the outcome at least I will have the certificate & experience even if it's just for just a small clientele & freelancing to make a lil extra doing what I love to do making others look & feel beautiful.. good luck ladies
