I've been wanting to try bare minerals for a while now but I'm still apprehensive. would you recommend this product or any others? looking for maximum coverage for very, very dry skin.

Bareminerals definitely cleared up my skin & helped me out so much! If I switch to Mac for a day, I literally get a breakout. But I recommend the original loose powder from them w/ a flat brush kabuki based for maximum coverage & keep it in your purse for touch ups. It is a dewy finish. The compact is extremely full coverage & claims to be a hydrating powder, but it's super full coverage :) it is just hard finding shades! I would also recommend origins anti aging foundation (its a beige tube sold at select macys counters). It's so creamy &a full coverage, organic foundation. It's been working well for me :)

It won't do coverage unless you use a concealer underneath. Their concealers are very creamy though I don't know about the powder.
I use Tartes ( they have a mineral foundation ) and I think it does better for my skin from what I've seen ( was using BM for two years ) and has way more coverage and a nicer finish. ( if you like airbrushed porcelain skin finishes ). But you have very very dry skin so I would go with BM because I find that tarte is better for normal skin than dry.

I would try a liquid or cream foundation. I don't think a powder foundation will generally give you much coverage without making it look dry or cakey. I'd recommend CoverFX, Kat Von D Tattoo Foundation/Concealer, or Tarte Maracuja Oil foundation. I think one of those would give you good coverage and wouldn't highlight the dryness too much. And instead of setting with powder you could try a setting spray.
Also, are you exfoliating at all? It could just be the pic but it looks like you have some dry flaky patches which you could probably eliminate by exfoliating if your skin isn't so dry its hurting. Exfoliating that dead skin away can make it much smoother and will allow your makeup to go on much better.

@Caitlin I disagree with liquids. I have normal to dry skin and it accentuates everything. I was reading a beauty article the other day and they mentioned that drier skin types should stay away from liquids. I've always had much better luck with minerals than liquid. The Kat Von d foundation is very horrid on dry skin. Even the girls at sephora don't recommend it. A lot of long lasting foundations cling to dry skin and dry skin already clogs enough by itself to anything you put on it.

My best advice to you is to go get samples if you can. Foundation is such a personal thing. I personally hate bare minerals but it could work wonders for you.

I use bare minerals but it doesn't give the coverage your going to want but try the ready foundation I have it and it's more full then the loose powders. You might need to use a liquid concealer to cover it up more.

I use bare minerals on top of a liquid foundation, and I get total coverage. If I don't use bare minerals, my acne and red skin still shows through. I wouldn't use anything else!
