Right this might sounds really stupid but what are the mac pigments for??

Like any pigment, they're straight color. You can do anything. Most people use them for eyeshadow, but lighter shades can be blush, you can mix them with gloss for colors, you can add them to clear polish, they're probably the most versatile product in the makeup world :)
