Hi All,
I have been freelancing for a while now but don't know how to network or advertise well enough to get leads. I get leads from time to time maybe 1 or 2 in 4 weeks or 3 weeks not much as I like it to be. Before that I thought of doing a bridal show but read things on internet that its not much worth the effort. Of course I have my own personalized business cards and online portfolio. Sometimes I feel I charge more but thinking that I give the bride a kit to keep and lashes. I live in the DC area too and everything is expensive in this area some of you might have the same problems too. Is it that because its too expensive to work with makeup artist these days or my tactics are wrong in getting makeup jobs?

I think if you want to be primarily a bridal makeup artist you have to advertise. I take flyers to bridal shops and ask if they will let me leave business cards, some places do let you. You also need to google other MUAs in the DC area and salons that offer bridal makeup and be very close to their prices to be competitive. Maybe even go to salons that only offer hair and see if they will refer their brides to you for makeup. It never hurts to ask! Good luck!

I would work for free or as an assistant to a well established makeup artist. Offer your services for local fashion events and collaborate with hairstylists and photographers. You have to put out a lot of free work first to get noticed and if you're good, ppl will refer you. I hope that helps!

Try an agency like Ford models or Utopia.

Nadine, are you currently advertising on sites like theknot.com and mywedding.com? I get several leads per week from those sites alone. There are also many other wedding sites that are specific to the DC area, you just need to google for them. It may seem expensive to advertise, but in the long run, it's pennies compared to what you'll be making.

Hey everyone...
thanks for the replied and help. I used to be part of Thumbtack sometime before but deleted my account from there since I practically got no leads worth doing except for one. I am on wedding wire right now and not much going on there either. I will try theknot.com and
mywedding.com
Thanks for the suggestions.
