I had red hair for a while, but dyed it too dark of a shade once, which drove me crazy. Red usually fades quite quickly, but I was impatient and used Color Oops to remove the hair color so I could recolor it with the lighter shade I usually used. Color Oops is a hair color remover which does NOT contain peroxide, so it does not have bleach in it. My hair did not feel damaged at all, and it was a quick fix. If that doesn't sound like something you would like to try, I have tried using Dawn dish soap to lighten hair. I used it on teal hair (so the outcome was hard to monitor), but it should work a little bit but it is quite drying to your hair. I heard that dandruff shampoo works for fading hair color... but I have never tried it myself. I have used purifying shampoos to fade colors, and that may be your best bet! It is probably the easiest on your hair. I used Ion's Purifying/Clarifying Shampoo from Sally's, and it has always come through for me, when fading hair dye! I would recommend doing a deep conditioning treatment and being extra nice to your hair after doing any of these things though!
Good Luck!
