Tonight I'm going to buy the box of ombre dye because I just can't afford to go have it professionally done, can any of you ladies give me some advice on how to do it?

I'll try to explain through message. I don't do well with that. It would be nice if I could just show you or even have me do it but I can do it through the screen, so here we go.
It will take a while to get the ombré look. Depending on how you want it to look you do it a certain way. If you want to have the color fade into the ombré you have to do it in sections and different periods of time. You don't leave it on for how long the box says and most likely you will always have some left over. All you do is put the dye in your hair for the amount of time you want to, not all the way unto were you want it yet and wash out. Each time you keep getting higher with the dye. I recommend 3 times. So I would go ten minutes each time to maybe 15 if you do it three times so it does not wreck your hair. Also you want to wait for your hair to dry each time of washing before you go to the next layer. Do not shampoo, just condition your hair each time. Try to have enough conditioner that from the box. If you can't, I would use conditioner you already have for the first times of washing and when you are done with the last layer I would use the conditioner in the box. Remember I recommend 3 times and no more. And only leave the dye in for 10 - 15 minutes. You do not want to wreck you hair.
If you want it to just switch colors, you just put the dye on the tips of you hair and how high you want it. This is the easier way to do it. For this one just leave the dye in for what the box says.

Oh, also just wrap a towel around you, like your neck and shoulders so the dye does not get on your skin. Also don't wear close you really care about just in case the dye does get on them. If the dye does get on your skin it is not the end of the world. The spot will leave over time :)
Just never get in your eye. It hurts quite a bit. I know from experience. If it does happen, wash your eye out with water. Will hurt for a little while but it will be fine afterwards. If left in, it could be bad.

Megan, she can get that color without going to a salon. I have done it to a friend.

I kind of agree with Megan. If you have dyed your hair before and you're confident go for it of course. But if you aren't sure about it don't do it because it will be costly to correct. I used John frida go blonder and I am a natural blonde and it made my hair yellow and damaged and I had to shell out big bucks to fix it. So I'm not much help but just giving some warnings in case!
