So I recently started taking birth control (it's for a medical reason-- don't think you really need much more information than that). And my skin has broken out pretty badly! I read that for a lot of people birth control made their skin better, but I was wondering if birth control is one of those things that makes your skin worse before better?
I also just started using a new foundation so it could be that, but I'm not sure.
Also, I've been on birth control for 2 weeks now. :) Not very long, I know. I assume it would take a month or two for my body to completely adjust?

When I started birth control I broke out...and then suddenly it was gone. however...I started gaining weight like a mofo and wanted to murder my husband half the time because it messed up my hormones. sometimes you have to try a few different BC to find the right one for you. good luck!! hopefully it settles down and works well for you.

Well, I've been using birth control for my period cramps since April and they work wonders!
maybe you need a different brand, you should ask your ginecologist

Yes, it can cause your skin to breakout. The one I'm using currently does make me break out a bit. The other ones I tried didn't seem to hurt or help, but they made me feel like complete crap. I've tried about 4 kinds. Each one was very different. It can get better with time. You should stay on whatever kind you are using for at least three months to see how it affects you, unless the side effects are absolutely too horrible.

Maybe you could switch to another pill? It could be true that this one is breaking you out because of all the hormones it contains. if I were you I would see how it is in a month or two and give your body some time to get used to all the hormones and if it does not get any better, try another brand of birth control!

I've been on birth control for 4-5 years now and I don't break out. The kind I take it the most effective for clearing skin and it really does. Also I always wash my fave every night. You said it's only been two weeks, I don't think the birth control would react THAT quickly to giving you acne. It couls be the foundation. Stop using it and let your skin breath. If it continues, itsq the b.c.

I can totally relate to Hannah. When I first start ed using it I was in full fledged panic attack because I was breaking out left and right. Now, after over a year of using it I rarely get a spot. It takes some time for your body to get use to the new hormones and it should help balance your skin out. Give it about a month, that's when my doctor said I'd start to notice a difference :)

Keep in mind birth control totally recalibrates your hormones so acne is expected as are other changes. Just try changing your routine until your body adjusts itself to its new system.
