I'm confused. I thought that NW meant Neutral Warm which would mean that it has a slight yellow undertone and NC was Neutral Cool which would have a pink undertone, so how would NW not look very yellow if you have cool undertones?
I can't answer your NW15 darker question sorry

Mac is a little backwards NW is pink and NC is more yellow.

Kelly and renay are right with the undertones.
But I think you should stick with the one you normally wear. If you go with nc15 or anything warm toned it'll be too orange on you.
It might be saying its darker just because of the tones, I know warm tones look to yellowy light on me but same shade different undertone fits me perfectly. I think mac has a pretty good return policy. Or if you can, maybe wait till you can go to a Mac store and have their help?
I hope this helps.

Here's a pic of me with NW 15 Studio Sculpt halfway on my face (left side). I almost got NC15 because it seemed paler but the artist suggested NW instead. (I'm normally NW anyways).
