Does this sound like a healthy option for my hair?

So my hair is excessively damaged.
I've over bleached the ends and there's so many split ends and it's just so dry. It breaks off before it even gets the chance to grow and I really want to start letting my hair get healthy.
I know the common answer would be to cut off the dead ends and start fresh but I honestly cannot handle having short hair. It doesn't suit me and it just makes me feel terrible about my appearance. I definitely feel comfortable and good about myself having long hair.
So my option is to cut my hair to whatever length necessary to have the ends be heathy again and get extensions. I get really annoyed with the clip in ones cause it takes time and you have to be careful to put them in the right spot every time, especially with short hair. So I was thinking of tape in extensions.
But I'm not sure what damage that would do to my hair. Any help?

I'm not knowledgeable with extensions, but the best bet is to cut your dead ends, and then get the extensions!

You really don't have to cut your hair. There's a misconception that once your hair is processed it's "dead" but it wasn't alive to begin with. Your hair is just dry and had protein taken out of it so it's weak. You need to get a good protein treatment once every other week leave it on till it dries then rinse and use your regular conditioner for a little but of moisture. The next week use a moisturizing treatment and alternate between the two once a week or twice depending on how damaged the hair is. Also use a shampoo that doesn't have sulfate as that dries the hair out. I bleached my hair three times and it was in horrible condition till I started doing this and now it's soft, doesn't break and still grows nicely

Although if you do have split ends like it sounds like you do your only option is to cut off your split ends because there is no true way to "repair" split ends. I think it would be fine to cut your hair then get extensions.

I'd have to disagree with these answers. Other than deep conditioning, continuously moisturizing and laying off of all the hot tools, there's not much you can do to fix your hair. Anything labeled "ammonium laurel sulfate" is just going to dry your hair out and cause more damage and split ends. Hair will not grow unless it is trimmed, and although it is dead, by removing dead hair, it'll prevent further damage making it stronger and healthier resulting in longer hair.
