I would say go for it!!! But to ease into it id try a softer smokey eye with browns (think naked palette) :)

You could also try doing a smokey eye with grays and purples. It gives the same impact as a black smokey eye has on darker skin. But really there all no rules! Play around and have fun. I'm a pale skinned redhead and smokey eyes are my go to for going out!

Maybe try a simple colour (charcoal grey would work) and then a thick winged eyeliner over your lid? You could always blend as much as you like to achieve the 'smoky' look :)
