I'm contemplating going a pastel purple/lavender/lilac color. What dyes work best to achieve these tones?
I currently have Pravana Chromasilk in Violet, but I'll buy what's recommended. I've been considering Directions dye also. I want something lasting.
Thank you in advance!

I've personally never used Pravana nor Directions but I know Ions Color Brilliance has a lavender shade and I've used Ion color before. I like the results I got and it lasted pretty long in terms of vibrancy before fading out. I also like Manic Panic but I'm iffy about it.

I wouldn't use ion, the dye is thick and hard to get an even color when working with pastels. And it lasted like one wash in my hair lol.
I think your pravana one would work, if it's too dark just dilute it with conditioner. Any purple dye diluted with conditioner will work.
But remember to look at the undertones, a blue based purple (like manic panics ultra violet) will make your hair more silvery purple, but a red/pink based purple (like special effects joyride) will give a more pinky purple color. :)

Well I mixed my ion with manic panic and I was fine. I'm sure if you mix it with a more liquid dye it should be alright since it is semi permanent. Then again everyones personal experience is different so.

Dorothea I mixed it with punky color and a liquidy conditioner to try and make it less thick and it didn't mix well, it was just a huge hassle and when doing it on myself I had to comb through to make sure it was even and it still came out streaky it was just a huge ordeal for something where manic panic and the veggie dyes are much easier to work with. I'm sure on someone else or if you have someone to help it'd be easier, but it was just crap for me. I also had to use 5 boxes because it's so thick and doesn't spread well vs 2 veggie dyes

Pravana is what I use all the time, and I'm a professional stylist. It stays the longest. The violet is DARK though so mix it with a lot of conditioner until it's the desired color.
