That's always a risk when dying your hair.
Just go for it. I'd suggest bleaching it first so that the colour is bright and stays longer.

I am 14 and wanted to dye my hair red and my mom wasn't really all about BRIGHT colors and I was, but we compromised and went with a mahogany reddish color that wast permanent and it wasn't that bad of a color. It didn't look that good once I had first gotten it done but once I washed it and went out in the sun( it was over summer) it really brightened up and I loved it!

I'd suggest doing a lot of research and checking out lots of different colors before you do anything. Try out the spray cans of hair color, and see if you like any of those and try to color match them to real hair dyes.

My only advice, which may be common sense lol, is to go to a salon for whatever you do. I thought I could get away with using boxed dye and it catches up to you one day. My hair was never super unhealthy, but after a while it wasn't anywhere near as healthy as it should have been. I got tired of having to buy all kinds of repairing products for it. I should have just kept going to a salon like I had been.
But I agree with what others have said; do your research, maybe try out the temporary spray on colors.
You could even go to a wig shop if there's one near you and see if you can try on some so you can see how some different colors look. I think starting out small would be a good idea though, in case you don't like it you won't be stuck with something you hate.
