Today my client asked for very short layers but wanted to keep her length long. Her hair is almost past her bra strap. It was difficult avoiding making it look like a mullet. I would like some constructive criticism and tips please.

It's not bad. Maybe to keep it less mullet, you could shape the layers more in Us.

I suggest making the layers more long, they seem too separated if that makes sense. I always ask my hair stylist the same thing, to just refine my layers. try adding more layers but keep the last one the same length sorry if I didnt help lol.

That's the thing though. She asked for very short layers with the shortest at her earlobe. Yet, her hair is very long.

I'm not a hairstylist, but what if you do sort of a v cut for the longer part so the layers kinda blend or gradually get longer?

Considered it, but she didn't want the v shape.

You did as told if she wants her shortest layer at chin and still keeping that length is hard to not make it into a mullet I personally Don't think is the best hairstyle for her but if she's happy give your self to thumbs up because you did as your customer ask

Thanks. C:

I'm just a perfectionist and if it's not exactly right in my eyes, it bugs me. She loved it.

The best technique I have found is by using the feather razor or even point cutting to add texture helps to blend the layers more even if they are disconnected just explain to your client so that they are aware.

And make sure to section out the nape and some length on the sides so you don't cut into it otherwise the sides will be completely disconnected from the back giving you that mullet effect

Honey, I'm a stylist too. You did what the client asked for and you did it well, especially considering how dated the style is.

I think you did great my cuts kinda similar but maybe should've just suggested that layers meeting at chin rather than her earlobe cause it'd be a little more flattering but in the end of the day if she's happy that's all that matters but I don't think you did a bad job??
