Bronzer isn't really the best product to be contouring with, you want something cooler toned (I personally use Illamasqua's Cream Pigment in Hollow) which is more like a shadow colour. Bronzers by nature are warm toned so aren't best for mimicking the cool tones of a shadow.

Jordan Liberty on YouTube has a fab video showing the difference between using a bronzer and a "true contour colour" and has a few suggestions for products in the description bar as well as some tutorials for contouring in general.

I recently got the make up forever sculpting kit and its great. also it depends on the brush. I love using the sephora pro contour brush. it is shaped so that it follows the shape of your face and is super easy to make that initial contour line. rather than look bronze, it will give you the shadow you desire to create the illusion of more sculpted cheekbones. they also have a smaller brush for your nose and smaller areas of the face:-)

I agree with erica the brush makes a big difference on how it turns out & looking more defined & contoured. I suggest using the anastasia contour kit, but any true contour powder or cream will work. A bronzer will not give the look of a shadow it will just warm up those areas of your face. I've heard of people also using maybelline fitme sticks or something similar in a darker shade & if it is cool toned I'm sure that would work as well.

Also, if you don't want to spend a lot and can find this at any drug Store is NYC color wheel. It's perfect for contouring. It has multiple shades of cool brown tones without any shimmer. I love it!
