A few things:
1. While this is a lovely look, it's not a smokey eye. This would be considered a gradient, as the change in colors is from side to side, as opposed to bottom to top.
2. At the outer edge of your eye, your eyeliner doesn't touch your lash line. If you filled that in, it would look much better :)
3. Smokey eyes are not supposed to have any sort of harsh lines at all, so technically your winged eyeliner, while lovely, is out of place.
4. I love, love, love this shade of purple! But I would bring it up a little higher into your crease.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from with this, I don't mean any sort of insult or offense :) I really do love the purple.

No problem at all :)

Actually it does, a smokey eye is defined by the soft, smooth graduation from dark to light. A hard line of eyeliner would defeat the purpose. Feel free to ask Jackie or Alma, though :)

So no eye makeup, no matter how "correctly" done, can be considered "smoky" if there's eye liner? Even if I do you're exact understanding of the smoky eye & then slap a wing on top, it's no longer a smoky eye?! Lol

Your* understanding. Sorry. The whole "smoky" eye superiority thing is so confusing to me!

No problem at all, but yes, eyeliner does change the smokey eye look. Eyeshadow can be smokey or smoked out, but a technical smokey eye is a very specific thing. Please ask Jackie if you would like a full explanation of how it works :)

I've seen the threads hehehe this is one of BL's fav things to fight about. I just never knew eye liner was a factor as well. Guess I'll never the smoky eye down lmao

Eyeliner can be used in a smokey eye & usually is but it is smudged & 'smokes' into the eye shadow. If that makes any sense. Not trying to assume but Hannah wasn't saying no eye liner can be used but it is smudged causing a smokey effect with no harsh lines which would mean a winged liner doesn't work.

That's exactly what I mean, thank you for explaining better than I could Sarah :) and Grace, smokey eyes are extremely easy once you get your blending down :)
