what's a good brand?

I use the L'Oreal line of non-sulfate shampoos and conditioners. Right now I'm using the EverPure shampoo and EverCreme conditioner for extra moisture because it's winter. I've been highlighting my hair since I was like 13, so it can get pretty dry and damaged, but this line is really great! Gentle, doesn't strip my hair, gives it really good shine and moisture.

I really like a dove one. I think it has like pomegranate or something in it. But it makes my hair super nice.

Pantene! It really makes your hair soft and also strong against breakage. I highly recommend it!

I'm with @alice h. I've been using the non-sulfate shampoo & conditioner as well. It keeps my hair very soft and my highlights have seemed to last longer and not fade so quickly!

I have thick fine hair, if that makes any sense. It's oily in too and dry in the ends. Aussie Cleanse and mend is awesome!!!!!

Ok, I'm going to get a lot of I hate yous, but invest in a good quality shampoo and conditioner. You will notice and huge difference. Drug store brands use a lot of unnecessary ingredients and don't help your hair out in the long run.

honestly I have tried so many brands that I almost lost hope for my dry hair but than I saw Dove intense repair to my surprise it left my hair super soft, this is from a girl that has done serious damage to my hair, color/bleached it and to add all the hot tools I have used

@Kimberly I actually talked to my colorist about this, and she told me that the main difference is that most drugstore shampoos have sulfates in them, while most salon brands or high end shampoos omit them in favor of gentler (but more expensive) cleaning agents. Basically, sulfates are wayyyyy too harsh on hair, especially hair that's been color or chemically treated, or hair that has lots of heat damage. So basically, look for anything sulfate-free. If your scalp is particularly sensitive, you might need to go higher end that has fewer fragrances or other irritants, but in general sulfate-free is the main thing to look for.
