Hey renay. to my knowledge your only supposed to wash the top, to get rid of the oil and buildup on the scalp. but Natural oils are good for hair so it could be really drying to strip the oils from the ends. The conditioning part is just because conditioner can weigh down your hair. say you want a lot of volume you should stay away from putting a lot of conditioner on the roots.

The only reason I know is for people with oily hair. I always use shampoo and conditioner all over and my hair is healthy/great...

Kiimy is right. It's supposed to just take the oils from your scalp, leaving the ends conditioned by natural oil.
And conditioning only the ends just helps keep oil at the scalp at bay. I personally condition all over only when deep conditioning, since I can go 5-6 days without washing my hair when I don't condition my scalp, but when I do I can only go maybe 3 days. But I do use a light leave in conditioner to get tangles out anyways. Conditioner can also weigh down thin or limp hair and too much conditioning is actually a bad thing for your hair.

I use shampoo all over my hair and then conditioner on like the bottom half of my hair and I think it's just healthier for your hair :) especially if your ends are dry
