1) style it. Style it in such a way that makes it look pretty
2) straighten it
3) don't brush it or it will frizz
4) use hair frizz control remedies you can find plenty on the internet made from home ingredients

I've got 3c/4a curls (pictured below) and they are very tiny, very thick, and easily angered if I don't treat them right.
Here are some things that make my life easier, but if your mixed girl hair is like my cousins mixed girl hair (the term is actually very vague as mixed girl can range from close to white girl hair to closer to class 4 African American hair) some of these tips (and products) may not work for you. I suggest hitting up www.natutallycurly.com or curlynikki. Both of which have great tips and articles as well forums with other curly girls that can answer questions.
Styling
- YouTube is your best friend. Once you figure out your hair type (not just numerically - the 2c, 4a, 3b thing) and find a curly girl with it, styling becomes so much easier as they can act as a guide for you. If not for YouTube I would have never found out about doing Bantu knots, 3 strands twists (not a plat!), two strand twists, how to stretch my hair without straightening it, or any of that. It also helps with product recommendations as if you see what other curly girls use, you can adapt it to your regimen.
- Don't straighten your hair all the time unless you want to kill your curls and potential heat damage to your hair. If you do straighten, deep condition before hand and use a good heat protectant.
- Find brushes, combs, etc.that work for you. I haven't used a comb in pretty much a year to do anything other then part my hair. The only brush I use is a Denman brush and my hair loves it. I only ever brush my hair to detangle when wet, but it's not to rough on my hair and gets the job done.
- Know what your hairs main concerns are. Are you worried about moisture retention? Shrinkage? Frizz? Breakage? Once you know that it can make styling and knowing what products to use a lot easier.
Products
- No two naturals are the same, no two curly girls are the same. So what works for A, B, C and D maybe not work for you. So you have to play with things until you figure out what your hair likes.
- Switch to a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner. Doing this made my hair sooo happy.
- Find, or maybe, a deep conditioner that you love and keep near and dear
- Get a good leave in and a good styler that's not going to be to heavy or light for you hair. This is when YouTube and the websites I listed above come in handy.
Keep Up
- Satin bonnet and/or a satin pillowcase will be your best friends
- If you've done a style you like with your hair, try pineappling it at night so the style lasts a little longer

Now for products alone (and a little more in depth) what you use and what works best depends on a few things:
- Hair type
- Hair porosity
- Hair density
Like for example, I'm a 3c/4a with kinky curls (still unsure about this part), high porosity, and high density hair (aka my hair is thick and you can't see my scalp when looking at my hair).
My hairs main concerns are moisture, moisture retention, shrinkage control (-_-) , and split end prevention as my hair seems to get those easily.
My hair likes for washing (cause every natural is different):
- Aunt Jessie's Moisturizing Shampoo
- Curls Goddess Shampoo
- As I Am Coconut Cowash
- Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner
Leave in:
- Giovanni Direct 50/50 Leave In Conditioner
- Aunt Jessie's Leave in Condish (still getting use to it but not bad)
Moisture:
- Miss Jessie's Baby Butter Cream (friggin expensive though)
- Camille Rose Hair Milk
- Raw Shea butter (my hair loves butter more than milks)
Stylers:
- Miss Jessie's Pillow Soft Curls (Only one I've found so far that I really like, Shea moisture didn't so it for me)
- Curls Passion Fruit Control Paste (Worked well for me in the winter, in this humidity isn't helping my hair hold styles. But neither is the ECO styler gel...)
Detanglers:
- Aunt Jessie's Detangler (I mix it with my Shea butter)
Oils (I generally mix them all unless I'm trying to do something other than seal my hair)
- Coconut (I also use this as a pre poo)
- Vitamin E (makes my hair so soft!)
- Peppermint
- Argan
- Jojoba (Only one two drops in my mix as anything other then that makes my hair kinda greasy)
I also recommend taking a look over at naturallyculy.com and reading up on some things. Ultimately you're going to have to try and find what works for you as not all naturals can use the same things and get the same results. One girl at my job likes Deva Curl products, they didn't do anything for my hair. Everyone on the internet seems to love Eco Styler gel, I can't get it to hold my hair for anything! I'm going to keep trying as I just started using it again, but it's not going well. Everyone else at my job seems to love Shea moisture, doesn't do anything for my hair (but I haven't tried it in like...six to eight months and I've had a lot of growth since then so I may try it again). And that's another thing , something that didn't work for you at one point may work for you later on down the line.
I know this was probably more information then you wanted, but I hope it helped!
