So, I generally have really oily skin. But within the past couple weeks, the skin on my nose area has been getting extremely dry and cracked. My skin literally comes off in thick flakes, and a few blackheads have turned into these cyst things and scabbed over. What's going on? (Please note; I do take good case of my face. I exfoliate once every 2 days, and cleanse twice a day. As well as I apply moisturizer almost every day.)

Also, my pores around my nose area have started to become quite large, and my blackheads are getting worse. My nose is still oily, but my skin is coming off in dry flakes, if that makes sense.

Stop.your current routine!! Only exfoliate once a week, if that, continue to wash twice a day, and moisturize twice a day every day! Your skin is so dry that your brain is telling your skin to produce more oil making you oily but you are still dry. Just drink water and start using a thicker moisturizer.

Do you use any acne treatments? What about foundation?

I agree with Ashley D., you're exfoliating too much! You need to use Aloe vera gel to moisturize and get rid of the flakes, also use lacto calamine lotion to calm your aggravated skin, drink plenty of fluids and use a good sunscreen like coppertone sensitive faces if you have to go out in the sun. Try not exfoliating for a couple weeks to let your skin recover. Do not use any products with salicylic acid, glycolic acid, Tretinoin etc. for atleast 2 weeks.

Thank you guys :) and yes Nicole, I do treat my acne, and the foundation I use has salicylic acid in it to fight acne.

Hannah, have you ever used oils for the drier spots? My oily skin gets dry around my nose & lips during the winter time. I take a drop of Josie maran argan oil to the areas & found that to help more so than any other regimens I've tried. Also, important not to skimp on daily moisturizer even for us oily skinned gals. Good luck.
