Washing your hair less actually makes it less oily. It takes a little time to transition, but it's worth it. You should look into the "no poo" method.

Yes wash your hair less often because if you wash your hair everyday your scalp has to regenerate the oil because you're stripping the oil from it everyday so it needs to make more if that makes sense. The transition yes will be kind of gross but it's worth it and you can do hats or keep your hair up for a couple days or do cute braids or something like that. Also do a vinegar rinse it will act as it has clairifying properties leaving less oilyness and will also help if there's any bacteria on your scalp just make sure to wash your hair afterwards and put conditioner ears down every time you wash your hair not, on your scalp, do this also after you do the vinegar rinse after you shampoo.
