A primer is like a barrier between your skin and your makeup. it creates a smooth surface for your makeup and it should make your makeup last longer throughout the day. some primers even out skin tone, reduce redness and reduce the appearance of pores (even though I never see a difference in the size of my pores lol). I also have very sensitive skin and I use hourglass veil mineral primer. it's expensive but you can get a smaller bottle for $21.

Some other primers that people like:
-Rimmel fix and perfect pro (many people love it but It made me break out)
-Smashbox Photo finish light primer (good for sensitive skin)

Yes some of their products are quite similar. I have very sensitive skin and I absolutely love L'Oreal products, specifically their true match foundation. the only products I'm not a fan of from L'Oreal are their eyeshadows and concealer

Honestly I personally don't even use a primer I have a ton...hate urban decay primers by the way and that goes for face and eyes. Anyways I just personally use a face cream 10 mins before I apply my foundation. I personally think it looks better that way on my skin but you should try and see how you prefer it. Tarte has a great primer (the only one I've tried and actually really like) it's the one in the brown tube and not purple.
