So, I live in Canada. In Canada we have our own unique thing going on, but we're definitely also influence by American pop culture. I'm in college and I notice a lot of college girls wear a full face of make up, and even the HS girls I see on the bus, too. It's my anecdotal evidence/observations. I love to reading a lot of European fashion and lifestyle magazines and watch a lot of European, especially French films since one of majors is French. I notice that in European pop-culture artifacts (film, magazines) that women seem a lot more fresh-faced (less foundation). Obviously, make up is nearly universal, but they definitely wear a lot less make-up than we (North Americans) do.
Anyway, culturally, what are the make up trends were you live?

I live in Canada too in BC but I notice that a lot of people don't do a full face but not no makeup. Kind on in between.

@Jacqlyn - just basing it on my own personal observations
@Annika J - whenever I go to BC I see a lot less make-up than in Toronto or Montreal.

It my just be in your area. For example where I am full face of makeup is rare, but when I go out closer to the city I see it everywhere! It could just be area dependent.

I live in BC canada to and not everyone wears a full face of makeup some do though
I've been to England to and I've seen people with lots of makeup and some who wear none
Same with the US
It really just depends on the person not really the country I guess it could depend on the culture but the places I've traveled it's been different every person

I think a lot of it has to do with where you grew up and how you grew up. I grew up on a ranch and my mom was not a girly girl-- she just did enough make up to make herself look presentable and that's how I do my make up. I never saw the full makeup face so I never did the full makeup face. I just recently started and getting into a more detailed way of doing makeup...but even now I keep it super natural.

I live in Alberta in a major city and 90% of the girls at school wear full face, foundation and all, everyday. But a few years ago I lived in a small town that had less than 800 people, and most of the girls wore maybe mascara, a little eyeshadow if they felt adventurous. They also showed up in pjs half the time lol. I think it's more of a where you are type thing. In Europe I think they are a bit more spread out rather than packing into cities. That makes a huge difference I think. And Europe isn't as "Hollywood glam" as North America, as they don't have Hollywood to influence them as much. Where as in the states, and Canada, everyone around us is focused on the tv and movie stars that all look like models (half because of full face makeup) whereas in Europe it's more based on talent than what you look like.

I also live in California, woo woo, and I agree, it depends on the area and ultimately depends on the person. where I live by though, most girls think plastic is fantastic.

I live in central Cali and it definitely varies, I've seen full face craziness and girls who wore only mascara to a formal. I think it is based in the person. Like It is more common in Hollywood because more people with that kind of mindset live there, same as in places where less people wear make up. Similar people tend to stick together.

I had to laugh at Cali's comment!! I believe it depends on the way you are brought up in your family and also the place you are living in. But I do feel that the younger generation are now way more aware/concerned of how they look than we were 10 years ago! If I talk about my hometown in India, I am just amazed to see all my younger cousin's elaborate knowledge on fashion, makeup and 'how to be at your presentable best at any time' :) :) :)

I live in the netherlands, and I agree that it depends on the person. I am one of the few people in my school who wears a full face, most wear nothing or mascara, even though I live in a (to our standards) big city. and about the fresh faces in movies: I have noticed that in german and indeed some french movies but in dutch movies it's really a looooott of makeup lol.

Oh and french movies may have fresh faces, but in central paris you do see a lot of people wearing makeup.

@Cali...right on!! I'm originally from California and its been all fake stuff for as long as I can remember. I don't miss the view at all...I miss In & Out, Tommys Burgers and my beloved Greek restaurant on Pico. Living in Northeast FL I see a lot of gals with thick improperly matched foundation and extensive skin damage from baking in the sun and/or smoking. Skincare isn't a strong priority here.
Makeup trends...too many where I live play it too safe which isnt a bad thing because everyone has a right to express themselves how ever but myself personally I love seeing a pop of color a persons face...whether it be in a lippie or eyeshadow look. And whenever I see a unique look I'll go out of my way to approach them with a compliment.

I'm European, Scandinavian, and I think your right!
I go to university, and amongst uni girls the trend is differently "less is more"! I think I'm the girl how wear most makeup, and even I tend to go for a fresh face without to much products!
We of course also have the full face of makeup girls, but it's not that many!

And Alyx, believe me, we are as influenced by Hollywood as you are!!

It definitely depends on your area. Where I live, I don't normally see people with a full face of makeup, but they'll where some (normally badly-done).
