Try a golden brown with some darker undertones
And as for hairstyles try parting your hair differently

Go for red color, med golden brown or add some ash for a med blonde. It's already lightened so take advantage of that before going darker.

When you attempted the blonde did you use a box product from the drug store? It's impossible to go blonde from dark brown or black hair color from the box dyes, but there is hope! If you want to still go lighter I would first get a color corrector from your local beauty salon and they range anywhere from 3 to 8 dollars depending. After you remove the brassy and red tones from your hair then decide on what color you want to be from there, whether it be a blonde or a dirty blonde once you correct the tones that are in your hair now it can definitely be blonde or a lighter shade :)
