Hello beauties! It would be really lovely if you could give me some tips, etc, on starting out as a make-up artist. I'm only 17, nearly 18 and I'm incredibly passionate about getting into the industry. How do I start building my kit? What do I need? :) xxxx

hey Char Im 17 and I would 1st consider what type of makeup would you wanna get into bridal fashion special effects...etc...then build your Makeup kit off tht...then get the essentials. def get a neutral palette a universal coverup for all skin tones. if youre on a budget Coastal Scents has great makeup and I can honestly say sometimes I use their makeup more than my MAC or Urban Decay makeup. So start small then grow. Also check out some makeup school in your area. MUD is in New York and Cali I know after HS Im going to get an assosiates in cosmetology then live in NYC :) hope this helps a bit

I started with basics, like liners, blushes and got four concealers, if it didn't match my client I would take two colors and mix until it did. Then I just bought whatever needed for the job I was doing, and bought as I went. Gradually it just started building and was a lot easier on mine and my fiances pockets lol

I will always recommend elf (eyeslipsface) because it's cheap, and it works well, specially for my own personal kit, and client kit, it works on my own oily skin, without a primer almost all day when I use it with my stippling (skunk) brush. It's great for when you're just starting also because of it's cheap price

You'll also deff want basic brushes outside of your own kit (powder brush, blush brush, lip brush, disposable mascara wands, ect. ) I made the mistake of only having and using mine when I was just starting. boy if I knew then what I know now lol, and have a good brush cleaner, in spray form for on the spot quick cleaning between clients

make up artists usually start with applying eye make up first and then foundation, face contouring and n lips n eyebrows last. for really flawless skin they use kryolan foundation sticks which can be used as a foundation and concealer . this is what they use on the miss universe contestants. it is professional makeup n best thing its affordable x

First off you can get any makeup and use it to make it happen, been doing this for 20 years..just ask yourself if this is something you really want to do and why? Are you able to deal with the business side of it and as for kits it all keeps growing through time I suggest everything from brushes and makeup. do your research and keep in mind people have reactions to certain products that's why I strongly suggest you keep A opened mind to every product and some people don't like the feeling of certain foundations and so on..Their so much info on being in this field it's crazy.hope this helps a little and good luck  :-)

I've been a MUA for 6 years now. I started building my kit by jus collecting everything that I could possibly need for all skin tones. I watched YouTube videos and took my time and worked thru it

Start slowly and don't buy the things that seem unnecessary. I first bought my ben nye foundation palette and the concealer palette. I went to a makeup school and got my certification to apply for the discount cards. Also I made some nice business cards on zazzle. They have pretty designs and quick shipment. Elf is good to start with when adding to your kit. Make a model mayhem site to network with models and photographers to add pictures to your portfolio. When you have good amount of pictures to show advertise your business. Now clients ask for pictures before they hire you. Hope I helped some.

the most important thing you want to do is practice. I agree with Nadine about starting slowly. for example if you only had 1 eye shadow quad, challenge yourself and see how many looks you can create with that 1 palette. different people like different products and what items you need really depends on who your clients are and what type of work you are doing. for example if most of your clients are mature women you don't need a collection of glitter shadow. try to get your teqnique down first then in time you'll find what products work best for you
