My advice here is going to be this: Be extremely careful. The materials used in making molds and prosthetics can be very harmful if not used properly. Quite honestly I feel like this is the type of thing you should go to school for if possible or to be taught by someone else who is a professional. I say this because I went to school for it and I know it's a confusing thing to learn and there are many, many ways to injure yourself or someone else. I'm not trying to discourage you but I don't feel like this is a safe thing to be teaching yourself, at least not completely. If anything I'll recommend that you pick up Tom Savini and Dick Smith's books. But overall I think anyone who wants to learn this stuff should seek out schooling that way they can learn in a safe environment where a professional can intervene if necessary. Again, not trying to discourage, I just want to stress that safety is very important with this stuff, especially when you are casting someone's face. This really isn't the type of stuff I'd suggest learning on the internet :/

While I totally agree with the other girls about how dangerous it can be,I know that schools are very, very expensive and there are many self taught spfx artists, I've been teaching myself the basics of making moulds and while my knowledge is extremely limited I think my attempts have came out quite well.

first step is to make your sculpt, I used oil based clay you can get this on ebay,at a diy store or a crafts store I havent done a full face yet so I have been using a plastic board to sculpt wounds onto, then with a tiny amount of baby oil I go over and smooth everything down then I place my scuplt into a plastic box and pour over a mixture of plaster of paris and water, leave overnight and then I turn the box upside down to get out my mould, I clean it out with a blunt knife and rubbing alcohol and fill with whatever I'm using to make the prosthetic (foam latex, latex, silicone)

hope this helps! and warning : do not touch the plaster of paris mix with your hands, it solidifies by heating up and its very dangerous
