I've been thinking about getting acrylic nails for a while now, but some people have told me that they're a lot of work, and can be painful. Is it worth it?

I've never had them personally, however my mom and several friends have for events like prom etc. my mom had them for YEARS and when she got them taken off her poor nails were ruined. A lot of time and money were put into them as you'd have to get them done every 2-3 weeks. The friends that got them for prom said they were a pain to remove, and their nails looked horrible afterward.

They are a lot of upkeep and can easily look tacky. Natural nails are much more chic.

I don't see how they can be painful. I usually get gel nails % they're wonderful. in my opinion, fake nails are totally worth it!

I had acrylic on my toes and it ruined the nails! It made them thin and brittle. It's also a lot of up keep. If you have pretty natural nails now I'd say do NOT ruin them- get gel or shellac instead. It does nowhere near as much damage and lasts a while and looks shiny.

@Abby, I've never heard of having it on toenails! any parts of that experience that differ from acrylic fingernails?
