Hi! I have been wanting to get a curly perm for a really long time and I already know it would look good on my face, but here are my questions:
1. how long does the hair have to be, minimum?
2. How tight can the curls get? (I'd like almost afro)
3. How long does it last on naturally loosely curly hair?
4. Do I need to keep up the perm with a shampoo or conditioner like with Keratin-based straightening?

Your hair can be any length pretty much, it just depends on which one you get, they last for a 2-3 months , has your hair been bleached any lately or had harsh chemicals on it.

A non chemical solution could be using perm rods. they come in many sizes and can be used on any length hair. all you have to do is dampen your hair a bit and wrap it around the rod. the results are pretty awesome and look very natural. the curly style can last an entire week and you won't have any damage to your hair

There are different size you can chose from (this should be something you should consult with your stylist before the process.) choosing the right solution will also depend on your hair's strength, elasticity, and how well maintained it is. A perm will last you about 8-10 weeks depending on how well you are maintaining it.

Your hair can be any length. There's big medium and small curls. It last about a year, unless your hair grows slow. It can last longer if you take care of it or if you just like looser curls you can count that as lasting longer.

Actually depending on how you take care of it a perm can last you up to 1 year. But no heat tools on it. I've done it three times before. The first two times I loved it. The last time it was bad!! And I think because I had previously bleached my hair. You just have to make sure you're using good hair treatments after to keep it up and keep it as healthy as possible.

I actually recently did two perms.
1- enough hair to wrap around the rod at least two times if I remember right.
2- it all depends on the rod size, the tighter the curl you want the smaller the rod.
3- perms are permanent waves that's what it stands for, it varies person to person it can be anywhere form two weeks to years.
4- we normally see strengthening products to people who get harsh chemical services. Especially if your hair is resistant or coarse because you will have a highly alkaline perm than.

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner, I just figured out how to find my topic. I was asking about length because my hair is pretty short right now, and I would like to have a nice 'fro so maybe I should wait a bit. Thank you SOOO much for the answers!!
