How do you get your skin to a lighter/natural tone?

There are things you can apply to "bleach" your skin. It's used for dark spots and freckles. I can't think of any specific products tough.

Nadinola is a cream specifically with an bleaching agent. On eBay they sell a bar soap called Kojie San and I've heard people love it. Look for products with one or a couple of these ingredients. Arbutin, Glutathione, Kojic Acid or Kojic Palmitate, licorice extract, Hydroquinone, or ascorbic acid (vitamin C)
