So when I wear foundation, it goes on perfectly, it feels fine, all is good, right? Nope. About ten minutes later, I look in the mirror and it looks so cakey and gross and my undereyes look disgusting from it too. How do I get it to not look awful? I use primer and that really hasn't helped.

Are you putting it on in unnatural light?

I have the same problem...how are you applying it? I use a foundation sponge slightly damp but it still cakes on me in a few minutes.

I put it on in natural light, but when I'm looking at it I go in my bathroom which is fluorescent.

I use cover girl foundation and bareminerals primer.

How are you applying it? what foundation do you use? what skin type are you? you could be using the wrong foundation for your skin type. as well, you should moisturize & use a primer before foundation.. do you use any of these?
lol, many things can play into why your foundation appears cakey!

Oh don't worry about it then. Fluorescent light is the worse, it makes everything look bad. If it looks good in natural light I wouldn't worry.

I have sensitive dry skin, but I use ponds moisturizer beforehand and it always seems to do the trick. I use a blending sponge too, maybe it's just the foundation I'll have to try a new kind!

@Claire, try using an illuminating foundation, like NARS Sheer Glow. those really seem to work for people with dry skin. I'd also maybe try waiting about 5mins after applying your primer to apply your foundation.

Setting spray, application using a brush or damp sponge. Using your fingers can apply fdtn in a heavier, more uneven manner. Use less powder and try setting spray. It makes a huge difference. Or, try a loose powder instead of pressed. That looks less dry and cakey on the skin, feels/looks lighter and can build with multiple reapplications :)

It could be the lighting because I had the problem before too lol , but something I would recommend is a setting spray that leaves that dewy finish. I love the one from nyx it's pretty cheap and it's amazing

Foundation doesn't magically turn cakey though unless its oxidising, I think its the lighting. Mine always looks like crap under the harsh light above the mirror in the bathroom. Go back into the natural light and see if it still looks cakey.

Ugh that happened to me all the time! What I found useful to me was putting less foundation on, or if you have full coverage foundation you may want to switch to medium or sheer coverage. I also found that using a refreshing spray helped! I use elfs cucumber spray(: I love it.

My biggest problem is the feeling of cakiness I can't stand it!

Try a beauty blender if using liquid makeup. It is truly worth the hype.

Seriously bought a Mac foundation & A moisturizer from lush the same day & when I finally used them both together today I had cake face that didn't even happen that bad when I wasn't really moisturizing & using $3 Rommel foundation.

I have sensitive dry skin and I use l'oreal true match foundation with elfs small stipple brush. I than set it using a fluffy powder brush and physicians formula powder or Coty airspun powder. Sometimes I'll wear a primer underneath and it's either hourglass or smash box. The one thing to me that truly prevents having cake face is your skin care routine and how much foundation you use. Always start off with less and build up.

I didn't read all the comments. but before you go buy a lighter weight foundation. try applying with a damn sponge. pat it into your skin instead of wiping on with a brush.

Are you setting it with powder?

Damp makeup sponge (beauty blender or imitation )

Use a stippling brush, and use a setting spray, don't use powder or it will look cakey. Hope this helped :D.
