I want to go lighter on my hair!

Recently I have not been liking my hair. I had an ombré and I loved it at first but then it quickly dried my hair. I cut it and dyed it for the first time. I chose a color roughly around my natural hair color. However I still had ombre parts at my ends even when I dyed it. It faded away so now I really want to go lighter and I have a light or ash brown in mind. Should I?
