What to do with hair?

Hi Saoirse!

Think about using a semi or demi-permanent color first. Less commitment, less damage.

If you want to go permanent, please be very careful. As you mentioned, your natural color is ashy - which can be really tricky to match, particularly since your hair is already bleached out - the result in using an ash-based color can be...well, greenish.

You might be better off with a gold-based blonde, one or two levels darker than your natural color. Definitely do a test strand - and I'm not sure how the developer works in box color in the UK, but here, it's a 20-volume peroxide that's meant to lift color before it deposits. You don't necessarily need to lift, just deposit. Check the volume of developer before you do anything.

If the box comes with a 20-volume developer, consider either diluting it with distilled water to bring it down to 10-volume, or buying a 10-volume developer instead.

Be sure to condition your hair well, give it a break from heat styling tools as well if you can.
