Most cosmetic testing is done at random. In my city (LA) people will actually come up to you (in larger mall areas) & ask you if you want to be a part of a new study. It's best if you contact companies directly. Not sure if you'd have a better chance w/ major companies or smaller ones, but it never hurts to try.
