(copied from my blog)
Hey everyone,
I have used the monistat chafing relief powder gel as a face primer twice now. I wanted to get this review up pretty fast, because I am sure everyone is wondering what the heck I am doing using this on my face. I have done some research and found a page that explains this product perfectly! It has all of the benefits and the price comparisons, it is a great page. If you want to see it then click here! I am not going to repeat everything that is on that page because it is a bunch of information!
I am going to say that I LOVE this stuff! I have been in search of a great primer for a good price. I have been using the Revlon primer, but it costs around 10.99! That is so expensive for a tiny bottle. This stuff is so inexpensive and has very similar ingredients. Apparently the main ingredient in this is the same as the main ingredient in the smashbox primer! I highly recommend using this. I was worried about breaking out, my face has actually gotten better! I think this stuff acts like a barrier, it doesn't let my foundation in to clog my pores and cause breakouts!
This is a great summary to what the link above says:
Why It Works
The secret ingredient in Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel is dimethicone, which is found in all the high-end foundation/face primers. Dimethicone is a silicone emollient (a skin softener) that forms a silky, breathable barrier between the skin on your face and your foundation. This dimethicone barrier has 3 benefits:
1> This barrier locks in your moisturizer under your make-up to keep your skin nourished.
2> The dimethicone barrier prevents oils from your skin from breaking through to your foundation. Since the oils can't get through, your skin never looks greasy or oily. No more blotting.
3> While dimethicone prevents oil from getting out, it also prevents your foundation from getting in. This means that your skin won't absorb your makeup so your makeup looks fresh all day, even on hot days. It holds makeup in place so well and for so many hours, many women report that they have stopped powdering their faces, giving their skin a more natural, youthful look.
Again...to find this information plus a lot more click here ( I DO NOT want to take credit for what that page says!) I just want to be able to share it with all of you because it is GREAT information!
Overall, I highly recommend this product. It only costs around 6 bucks and it is a lot of product. It will last me a long time! I will buy it again and again and again!
Check out that page, and let me know if you have or will try it!! :)

Nykki...isn't that an awesome find?!?!?!?! I started using that as a primer when I got tired of spending so much on Smashbox's primer and loved the results I was getting. Although I'm not using it now as a primer, it is still a staple in my makeup arsenal. Thumbs up for your sharing this tip. :-)

Nykki- I use monistat chafing gel as the primer occasionally only because I tend to forget I have it. I was skeptical about it at first because it's not what it is meant for. Once I used it, I loved it. The smooth and silky finish is awesome and it is EXACTLY like Smashbox's and I'm sorry, whoever says it isn't is just all about the Name.

I've been using Monistat as a primer for about a year now and I LOVE it. I have really oily skin, so I have to use a mattifier under it but other than that I have no complaints.

Hmmm I would love to try this, but I am a little hesitant. I use smashbox primer all the time, but I am still afraid this may break me out, maybe I will give it a shot anyway.

This has been a long known trick and the reason why is that primary ingredient is silicone which is what the vast majority of primers are.

I really don't know why anyone uses silicone products on their skin or hair anymore. Blocked pores, dry patches and breakouts aren't a pretty look on anyone.
Korres makes a non-silicone primer and I Iove it; does a nice job of smoothing out fine lines too.

@Maria L: Yes I was so excited to find it because I just can't afford to pay 30 plus dollars on a good one! :)

@Mima p: I agree, some people won't use it because it has the brand "Monistat" on it. Don't worry everyone, it isn't supposed to go anywhere near "there"! Lol. I don't know how you forget it though! lol! I love it so much! :)

@Deana K: Yeah I See what you are saying because it does give a shiny look at first, but gladly it goes away! I used Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse. I think the mousse consitency helps that out, because it is alreay matte, you know? It is some great stuff! (:

Jeny W: I could say the same thing to you that I said to Mandy K! lol. What made me the MOST hesitant is the breakout possibility. I am prone to breakouts, especially when I use new products, so I was very weary about trying the monistat. How could something that isn't for my face not cause me to breakout right? However, there is no sign of breakouts, and the breakouts that I did have have vanished! (: It is worth a try!

@Kimberly K: I haven't had any breakouts since I started using this primer and I am prone to breakouts! I do use silicone free based shampoo and conditioner because I LOVE it, but if something works for me and it happens to have silicone in it - and costs so little- I can't turn it away! :)
