The only difference Ive found with gel vs acrylic is that gel nails are softer and are cured differently and gel is usually a little more expensive but if you can't use acrylic that would be the way to go. Ah the price of beauty :) lol

Are you talking about a full set of gel nails? Or the gel polish like the shellac nails? A shellac maniure is suppose to last longer than regular nail polish, usually 2 weeks. However that just depends on YOUR nails. Some people it lasts 2 to 3 weeks. Some people only a week or even less. If your natural nails are strong then the gel will last. If not then chances are it wont last as long.
Also, for the shellac gel you must soak it off in acetone. If you pick them off them your natural nail will peel off as well. And just like it depends on it if will last on your nails depends on your nails if it will damage them as well. Some people have had damage from shellac and some have not.
I work in a nail salon so this is just my experience with the gel shellac. Personally it only lasts on me a week.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
